Daniela Amodei co-founded Anthropic with her brother Dario in 2021 and serves as its President, overseeing operations, go-to-market strategy, and business development. Before Anthropic, she was VP of Safety and Policy at OpenAI, where she managed the team during GPT-2's development and helped shape the organization's approach to responsible AI deployment. Earlier in her career, she joined Stripe as an early employee and helped scale its operations. Amodei's path to AI leadership was unconventional: she studied English literature, politics, and music at UC Santa Cruz and started her career in congressional politics before transitioning to tech. At Anthropic, she has helped build one of the most influential AI safety companies in the world, demonstrating that responsible AI development can also be commercially viable. She was named to Time's 100 Most Influential People in AI in 2023. Her leadership complements Dario's technical focus with operational discipline, fundraising, and strategic partnerships that have made Anthropic a serious competitor to OpenAI and Google in frontier AI development.
