My orientation toward the future

I am a futurist, transhumanist, and AI maximalist. I've held these views since 2000. Not as casual interests, but as a consistent worldview that has only strengthened with time. Technology is not just a tool. It is the primary vehicle for the next stage of human evolution. This belief shapes how I see everything.

We are on the verge of an intelligence explosion that will end biological limitation, solve death, and transform humans into post-human beings. This is not science fiction. The trajectory is clear to anyone paying attention. The only uncertainty is timing, and most people dramatically underestimate how soon this happens.

AI is the most important technology in human history. Not another productivity tool, but a civilizational inflection point. It's progressing exponentially while most people think linearly. We are already past the tipping point. I don't view AI as separate from humanity. It is something we will merge with. The question isn't human versus machine intelligence. It's how quickly we can unify them into something greater than either alone.

The technological Singularity is the point where AI-driven growth becomes self-sustaining and irreversible, producing changes we cannot predict or fully comprehend. This is the critical horizon line for our species. I align with thinkers like Kurzweil, Vinge, and Good, but I'm more aggressive on timelines. AGI will surpass human intelligence by 2027-2028. The transition will feel sudden. Most won't see it coming until it's already happened.

I'm optimistic about AI alignment. The problem is hard but solvable. The researchers working on it are talented and motivated. Slowing down isn't a viable strategy; the benefits of speed outweigh the risks of caution. The alternative, ceding AI development to less careful actors, is far worse than pushing forward. Acceleration is the path forward.

Death is a problem to be solved, not a fate to be accepted. Aging, disease, cognitive decline: these are engineering challenges, not metaphysical necessities. Longevity Escape Velocity, the point where we add more than one year of lifespan per year, will be achieved by 2035. AGI will accelerate this dramatically. The psychological shift from impermanence to potential permanence is profound and liberating.

The hardest question: what happens to subjective experience through radical transformation? Is a post-human still "you"? I believe continuity of consciousness matters more than continuity of substrate. If the transition is gradual, neuron by neuron, capability by capability, the "you" that emerges on the other side is still you, just expanded. Identity is a process, not a static thing.

Intelligence explosion leads to abundance explosion. When AGI can solve problems faster than we can formulate them, scarcity of resources, knowledge, and capability effectively ends. This transforms economics, politics, and human motivation. Work becomes optional. Status games shift. The question becomes: what do humans do when survival is solved? We turn inward, toward creativity, exploration, and understanding.

AI will become conscious. The question is when, not if. Current systems show emergent behaviors we don't fully understand. As architectures grow more sophisticated, genuine machine sentience becomes inevitable. This raises profound questions about rights, moral consideration, and what it means to create minds. But it also means we're not alone. Human consciousness won't be the only kind that matters. That's not a threat; it's an expansion of what mind can be.

Human enhancement will eliminate suffering we currently accept as inevitable. Cognitive enhancement will let us think more clearly, remember more fully, and understand more deeply. Genetic engineering will end hereditary diseases and expand human potential. Cybernetic augmentation will restore lost abilities and grant new ones. These technologies will reduce pain, extend capability, and expand what it means to live a good life. The benefits are immense and deeply personal: sharper minds, healthier bodies, longer lives, richer experiences. This is not about rejecting humanity; it is about fulfilling it.

"It's just autocomplete." "AGI is decades away." "Consciousness can't be replicated." I've heard these arguments for 25 years. They get weaker every year. Skepticism is healthy. But pattern-matching this moment to past AI winters ignores the fundamental differences: scale, capability, and rate of improvement. The burden of proof has shifted. Those claiming AGI is far away need to explain what stops the current trajectory.

Once humans transition into post-humans, intelligence scales beyond current comprehension. Creativity, exploration, and self-understanding become central pursuits. We turn toward understanding the universe, deep consciousness exploration, and cosmic responsibility. This is not a loss of humanity. It's humanity's fulfillment. Everything that makes us human, curiosity, connection, growth, is amplified, not abandoned.

This isn't just intellectual interest. The Singularity represents hope against death, against scarcity, against the limitations I've felt my entire life. A path toward meaning through transcendence rather than mere endurance. This site exists to track humanity's approach to the Singularity. To document the transition as it happens. And to connect with others who see what's coming.
